DISC DOG COMPETITION RULES AT A GLANCE *

RETRIEVAL PROFICIENCY TEST (RPT) – This is a test to show that your dog is capable of retrieving an object, off leash and under control from a distance of 10 yards. The dog may retrieve any object (ball, toy, stick…) provided by the handler.  The dog must retrieve the object and deliver it to the owner.  Retrieves will be rated from 1 to 5.  Dogs receiving an RPT rating of 4 or 5 will receive a certificate and are eligible to compete in disc dog competitions sanctioned by CDDA for titles.

SINGLE DISC COMPETITION – This is the class that allows you to earn legs towards titles! Dogs and handlers have 2 one-minute rounds to complete as many successful throws and catches as possible.  Dogs receive points for the distance the disc is caught at and bonus points if  the dog “gets air” (all 4 feet leave the ground).  Dogs should be capable of catching discs at least 10 yards from the thrower.

FREESTYLE (FREEFLIGHT) – This is a fun competition. Handlers make up their own combination of tricks and flying disc catches to the music of their choice.   Limited to 90 seconds.  Entrants are judged on the number of catches, difficulty of tricks and artistic impression.

Anyone with a dog that loves flying discs and a bit of imagination should enter.
You do not have to be a pro!

DISC-o-DUCK – This is an unofficial fun event.  Dogs have 1  minute to retrieve as many discs as they can from a pile of discs, rubber ducks, balls and toys.

DISCS IN THE MINEFIELD – This is a new unofficial fun event.. Dogs are asked to retrieve discs across “ minefields”.  The first minefield has tennis balls, the second toys, and the third hot dog wieners!

All competitors must put their CDDA competition numbers on all entry forms.
Entries that do not have a CDDA competition number will not receive points towards titles.  If you do not have a CDDA competition number or have lost your number,
