Scooter is a 7 year old mixed breed who I picked up from the side of a garbage can in the middle of nowhere Texas.
It was determined that she was hours from starvation, 6-8 weeks old, and covered in the worst case of Sarcoptic mange any 3 vets had ever seen. It took us almost 6 weeks to completely rid her of this terrible affliction. She literally would splay herself out and crawl across the floor rubbing her whole underside trying to ease the itch...hence her name "Scooter".
The things she had to endure to rid her of these terrible parasites is not something I wish to relive, but through it all she was nothing more than a "perfect pup." She never peed in the house...never, not once...She never chewed or tore up clothes or shoes, she never begged for table food. She never barked incessantly...as pups go she was too good to be true!
From a very, very early age she showed interest in toys and balls and constantly had something in her mouth as she roamed our home. She was smart and soft and obedient, and soon we learned, very agile with a frisbee!
When we moved to Austin in 2001 we discovered they had an active flyball team, we knew we had to let her try.
And try she did. She learned faster than her Mom and Dad could train her, and now she lets us know when it's time to go to practice twice a week. Heaven help us if we have to miss!!
I've had dogs all my life and currently have registered Dalmatians who I of course love dearly. But this little "Garbage Can Angel " has stolen my heart and proven once again that some of the best dogs are rescued dogs.. Feel free to come meet Scooter at any tournament or practice.
