There I was, scared to death in a room full of insane, barking dogs and strange humans (flyball tournament). I was clinging to the only familiar scent and sight I knew. My early puppy hood forgotten with no place I could really call home. I met a few friends along the way, was well fed, and better off than a lot of puppies that had followed a similar path, but things were still not quite right. I didn't really have a pack I belonged to. Then, my eyes caught a giant yellow spot coming towards me. As it got closer, it materialized into a large man in a bright yellow shirt. Something told me this was the guy if I could just get his attention. I mustered my courage and raised my head completely out of hiding and stretched a paw towards him, hoping he'd spot me. He did. The next thing I remember was sitting in his lap on the floor. Suddenly the insane, barking dogs sounded fun and the crowds of humans looked friendly. A couple of days later, I was finally home. Now, I'm finding my place in the pack and settling in. I've learned most of the basic obedience, but my step-sister Sprinkles plays this game with a bunch of other dogs. They run, jump and play with a tennis ball. It looks like a lot of fun. The Man in the Yellow Shirt tells me I'll get to play this game when I'm a little older. For now, I'm content to play with my step-sister as I get to know my new family. |
