Classes/Membership

First in Flight offers Beginning Flyball Training classes twice yearly, through the Winston Salem Dog Training Club. Our facility is heated, air-conditioned, and fully matted. Classes are structured and registration is required.

Our instructors are seasoned competitors who have trained their own dogs through at least the FM (Flyball Master) level in flyball, as well as advanced levels in agility and obedience.

Our classes are based on the principles of Backwards Chaining, and the use of Positive Reinforcement. We focus strongly on a safe and correct performance. The nine-week course is also used to evaluate your dog’s temperament and suitability for flyball.

All dogs entering the Beginning Flyball Class should have a strong foundation in obedience, and must be non-aggressive toward people, dogs, and children. We’re looking for well-mannered dogs who get along well with both humans and canines. High ball drive is not a requirement, but a solid, reliable recall is. Dogs that are food and/or toy motivated are good candidates for flyball class. In addition, dogs entering the flyball class should be fit and healthy, not overweight, and up to date on all vaccinations.

Membership on the First in Flight flyball team is decided by team vote and consensus. We are looking for team members who are committed to flyball, and who fit well within our team.

We practice regularly most Friday nights. We welcome all visitors that are interested in flyball, whether classes or team membership, to come out and visit with us. (Please leave your canine companions at home when visiting us.) We would be happy to talk to you about flyball, future training, or possible membership.

For more information on training classes or membership, please contact the team captain, Donna Hunt, by email or 336-983-0992, or visit the Winston Salem Dog Training Club website for more information on registration guidelines, requirements, and class schedules.
