| Edric
-- Edric the Wonder Mutt FDX, NAC, NGC, CGC, Ag-1, Ag-2 Actually,
Edric is only in semi-retirement -- at our last tournament, he did run
in three heats. Edric is the oldest dog on our flyball team, at almost
11 years of age. He's another All American (German shepherd dog X collie?).
Edric started training in flyball just for fun -- his "career" started
in earnest after we did a demo at a steeplechase in North Carolina. We
had run all the other dogs, and finally for the last heat of the day, we
decided to run the old guy. Edric cleared the first four jumps, stopped,
saw the crowd, grinned (I swear he grinned!), then decided to roll. And
roll. And roll. Denise was box-loading, and desperately trying to get his
attention. Finally he got up, shook himself off, and grinned at the crowd.
And then did it all over again. Eventually he did come back over the four
jumps. We were all laughing hysterically, and nobody can remember if he
ever did get the ball. That was when we knew he had to get a CRN and compete
-- if for no other reason than for comic relief. If anybody has a videotape
of that demonstration, I will happily pay them $$ for a copy! |

Laika
-- Lacey's Black Lady Laika FDCH CGC Laika is black
Labrador retriever who owns Denise Delaney. Laika is one of the oldest
members of our team at 10 years, and she is also a charter member. She
was originally not to be a flyball dog but by a fluke ended up in Mike
Randall's seminar with Denise and had so much fun (and actually did what
she was supposed to) that she got to play after all. Laika is actually
in semi-retirement, but the old girl just keeps getting faster, so it's
hard to tell her she can't run any more. Laika is still running flyball,
but now for Denise's new team, Return to Sender, which is located in Region
13. (Denise had to go and fall in love and move to Pennsylvania, don't
you know?) |
| Jalen
-- Jalen FMX, CGC Jalen is a border collie who owns
Kristen Kline. Jalen is very intense about flyball, but manages to remember
her manners at the same time. Jalen also has a lot of herding
ability. Kristen just recently graduated from vet school, and has moved
away, like many of our vet school grads. Jalen and Kristen will be running
with FurFun in PA. |

Tucker
-- Barely Tuckered Out FM, CGC Tucker is another All-American,
and he owns Michelle Gorbutt. Michelle chose Tucker as a puppy from
the shelter because of his interest in tennis balls. It's a good thing
they found flyball -- both of them are hooked! Fortunately Tucker
will run flyball for anybody, so we were able to borrow him for a couple
of tournaments while she was busy during her senior year. Michelle also
just graduated from vet school and unfortunatly she has moved and Tucker
will be running with a New England Team. |
| Misha
-- Lacey's Misha of Nordic Pine FDCH Misha is Denise's
second black Labrador retriever. Misha has a very fun personality; one
of her favorite games is to spring in the air like a pogo stick. But she
has gotten serious about flyball, and has earned her Flyball Dog Championship
in good style. Because Denise is so busy judging, Misha hasn't run as much
as some of the other dogs in the team, but now that Denise has a husband
to help run Misha, she should finish her Flyball Master title shortly.
Misha also joined Denise on her new team, Return to Sender. |

Hannah
-- Hannah FDX Hannah is our second Australian Cattle
Dog, and she owns Cathy Geyer. Unfortunately for the New River Express,
Cathy had to go and graduate from vet school, so we lost Hannah when she
moved. |
| Lucas
-- Lucas Lucas is a black All American, probably some
kind of lab mix. Lucas owns Mark and Denise Delaney. Lucas was acquired
by marraige -- Mark agreed to run with the New River Express after he proposed
to Denise. However, Lucas was on hiatus from flyball due to a cruciate
ligament injury, so he never did run with the New River Express. With some
luck and dedicated rehabilitation, he may be playing on Denise Delaney's
new team, Return to Sender. |

Bullet
-- Pine Valley Bite the Bullet CD, OA, NAC, NJC, CGC, FDCH Bullet
and Monica Roberts are charter members of our team, and competed with us
at our very first tournament. Bullet is an incredible dog, and excelled
at all sorts of dog sports. Sadly, Bullet lost his eye sight just after
Monica moved away for graduate school, so he can no longer play flyball
or agility. However, he is still well-loved by Monica, and missed by his
former teammates. |
| Remy
-- Remy FDX Remy is another one of those black All
American dogs (Labrador X). Remy owns Lisa Aumiller, who had to stop playing
flyball when she started her senior year of veterinary school in May of
98. Remy was another one of those flyball prodigies who competed very successfully
after only a few practices. She'll make a good addition to any team, and
we're sorry that Lisa had to graduate. |

Molly
-- Molly Heinz FDX Molly was already pretty old when
Diane brought her to play flyball, but she had as much fun as any dog.
Diane has left a lasting impact on our team, as many of us now accuse our
dogs of being "cheaters" if they drop the ball instead of bringing it all
the way back to us. Molly may have only run in a couple of tournaments,
but she had a way of bringing even the opposing teams to their feet to
cheer for her. Molly is enjoying her retirement and still playing ball
-- just not flyball. Diane is another one of those on our team who became
a veterinarian in the spring of 2000. |
| Meg --
Meg FDX Meg was the third border collie to join the
New River Express. Meg owns Tom and Susan Caceci, who worked very hard
against her natural herding instincts to teach her to play flyball. Meg
was quite quick when racing. Unfortunately, her herding instincts got the
better of her, and she just couldn't get over the temptation of circling
all the dogs racing, including the one in the other lane. Meg had a short
career with NRE, but is enjoying playing frisbee and life as an excellent
companion to the Cacecis and their other dogs. |
