Like her housemate Kip, Toby began her flyball career with the Front Runners. In late 1998 she and we became a match made in heaven. Younger, smaller dogs had replaced her as a height dog on the Front Runners. We had lost our competition height dogs. We invited her to join us, giving her a chance to run again, and us a chance to compete while we developed more height dogs.
Toby stepped right in and allowed us to return to competitive racing. This also allowed us to finish training a couple of other height dogs without pushing them into competition prematurely. Toby did her job magnificently.
Toby ran her fastest competitive time as a member of our team on 01-19-01 when she completed the course in 6.29 seconds.
After running regularly with us for long enough to allow our other height dogs to became regular runners, Toby began to have problems. Several visits to her vet determined that she was suffering from Addison's Disease. Her condition was regulated with drugs, and she continued to run sporadically for a while longer, but she was never able to run at her old levels.
Toby remained in our lineups as a valuable backup dog for a couple of years, then retired in 2003. We were sad to see her go, but can thank her for allowing Jolly and Midge to develop, and backing them as they learned to play the game.
