SYDNEY
Flyball Master

with Shari Fischer

On one of my routine visits to the Humane Society about four years ago I came upon Sydney. She was just so cute that I had to take her home. When I got her home she was not only cute, but very, very busy. I had to find someway for her to exert some of her non-stop energy. She had already attached herself to any tennis ball she could find, as well as any person who would throw it for her. Needless to say, we realized she needed to be playing Flyball.

We have a golden retriever, Ned, who had done agility at Go Dogs, so we knew right where to go for Flyball. For the longest time I could have cared less about points. I play Flyball with Sydney because she loves it!  I feel like quite a geek at times when explaining to friends that I can't get together on certain weekends because I'm taking Sydney to a Flyball tournament.  I recently ran into a friend at a local tournament and she made the comment, "This is a whole underground world, that the general public has no idea about." I would agree, but it is fun.

Sydney is getting close to Flyball Master Excellent and once she's got that, she just might retire, (OK, so  now is where I care  a little about points). Although she is very puppylike, I have no idea how old she really is. She, Ned and I jog about eight miles a week, so she does get exercise, and she has calmed down a little.  I think she'll probably tell me when she's done.
